Tooth Whitening

Unfortunately over time our teeth can start to darken in colour. This natural process is caused by a number of factors including diet, lifestyle and how well we look after our teeth. Some long-term medications can also contribute to this staining of the tooth enamel.

No matter how well you clean and look after your teeth it is impossible to stop this discolouration- as the gradual staining is built up on the inside of your teeth. Even regular scaling and polishing by the hygienist won’t stop it completely.

If your teeth are looking a little dull or grey, don’t feel the need to hide them. Instead dazzle with a bright, white and beautiful smile. At The Art of Dentistry we use a tray system, which allows whitening to take place at home over a 2 week period with results often noticeable from the first application.

Tooth whitening is safe and suitable for use on most people. It is possible to remove stains from most teeth- even those that are considered dead due to root damage, although ‘false teeth’ such as crowns, fillings, dentures and bridges can’t be whitened. Teeth with particularly bad staining may require a longer treatment period.

Whether you are looking for a subtle change or you’d like to dramatically lighten your tooth colour by several shades- we are sure to have a treatment perfect for you.

Is tooth whitening safe?

Yes, when performed by a qualified dental health professional tooth whitening is safe. You should never use home kits which can be bought on the internet as these are unregulated and could damage your teeth.

Will it hurt?

Your teeth whitening treatment should be pain-free although you may notice a slight increase in sensitivity during treatment which should improve once it is finished.
